Mica iron oxide pigment is widely used in paint industry due to its significant anti-corrosion properties, and its coating has a very long life span. The sheets of pigments when positioned in the coating are oriented in parallel with the surface and their barrier properties prevent the penetration of water, oxygen and other corrosive agents to the surface. Other properties of these particles include increased adhesion of the coating, high atmospheric resistance and ultraviolet absorption, which prevents resin degradation. In zinc-rich primers, a zinc particle can be replaced with a microwave iron oxide. This, in addition to the economic benefits, improves the overall properties of the coating. By finding the optimal ratio of Zn to Mica iron oxide and also the proper amount of these in the general formula, a suitable primer with the best mechanical properties, anticorrosive properties and adhesion properties can be obtained.
